Kostiantyn Mishchenko

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: Was born in 1965. In Chernigov (Ukraine). A theater director by education (University of Culture in Kiev, Ukraine). From 1990 to 2016 I worked as an actor at the "Wheel" Theater (Kiev). From 1997 to 2016 I worked as a television producer. In 2016 he moved to New York. From 2017 to today I work as an actor. Since 2020, I started making films as a director.

My family and I are refugees. Once they helped us to get a job in a new country. Many more need help ...

What was your drive behind making this film?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: I relied on my life experience. My family is refugees from Ukraine.

How do you feelwhen you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD Award?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: Thanks to the festival team.

Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: Meeting a family from Yemen. They literally at the last second were able to escape from the shelling ...

How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: I didn’t stick to it. I relied on intuition and creative inspiration.

Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: I am well prepared for the production of the film. Therefore, there were no problems at all.

Do you have any advice for young filmmakers out there? Or like yourself?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: First of all, you need to listen to yourself. And believe in yourself.

Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: Yes. Necessarily.

Kostiantyn Mishchenko: The works of Luis Bunuel, Luchino Visconti, Andrei Tarkovsky, Norman McLaren, Andy Warhol, Orson Welles and many others.
